Meteorology
Traditional instruments
For years, mechanical instruments for the measurement of the different meteorological parameters, as wind, temperature, relative humidity, precipitation, barometric pressure, solar radiation etc. have given satisfying results for the most users.
Even if nowadays the most of these parameters are measured by modern, electrical and electronical sensors, some applications still require old fashion instruments.
Partially these instruments are even still utilized for the calibration of the modern sensors.
This is especially the case for thermometers, aspiration psychrometers (for the relative humidity calculation) and barometric pressure sensors.
A passive rain gauge, where the rain is collected and read in a test tube, is still used to compare this reading with the result of modern, electrical rain gauges.
